Do Strokes Cause Arm Pain? (Part 3)

Hi, my name's Rachel and I'm an occupational therapist at Steps for Recovery. And today we're answering the final part of our question, do strokes cause arm pain? And we're talking about hemiplegia. And so this is when muscles in the arm and shoulder become too loose, which some people will describe as floppy, and this can cause the bones in the arm and the shoulder to become misaligned. When the bones are out of alignment and the survivor or someone else moves their arm, especially over shoulder height, that can cause soft tissue to become pinched. And over time, that can cause pain. So one of the best things you can do when this happens is to work with a PT or an OT on developing a weight bearing and strengthening program to strengthen those muscles and get the optimal alignment back. Thank you for listening to our three-part series on Do Strokes Cause Arm Pain? If you have any more questions, you can go to our website at www.STEPSforRecovery.com.

Thanks.
